I just want to add a fun bit of trivia here…see that pose of Scandal at the top, the first time she is shown with the Lamines Pesar?
It’s funny, because I always thought that pose was so fierce, and such a great introduction to the character. I created her, but she was designed by the great Dale Eaglesham, who is a magnificent artist but very quiet and a little bit shy sometimes. I sat next to him at a convention in Toronto, and he was great fun but quiet, while his wife, who is equally awesome (and has the nickname, “Wulfie”), and I talked quite a lot.
It turns out SHE was his model for Scandal, and I was a little surprised, just didn’t expect it, perhaps because Scandal can be sort of dour and Wulfie is so joyful and outgoing. So she said, “I’ll prove it.”
And right at our table, in front of the line of people, she struck the exact pose there, in that image, and even though her hair is different and she was wearing street clothes, she totally WAS Scandal, she just completely conveyed that kind of ferocity even though she herself was laughing and chatting just moments before. In short, she totally looked like she could kick someone’s ASS.
The funny thing was, a kid walking by saw her strike the pose, and even without costume or blades or props, he recognized her instantly. “Hey! That’s SCANDAL! COOL!”
