I just became aware of this yesterday, in fact…reading some goofy thing where a person was complaining about white exclusion or some such.
So I went and looked at my video game collection. I have nearly every recent system and a bunch of obscure ones, I love video games. I have hundreds of games, just countless. And almost none of them had a POC as the main character, outside of sports and martial arts games. It was ridiculous. How anyone can delude themselves into thinking that white people are excluded somehow, because ONE GAME wants to focus on marginalized and nearly unrepresented groups is just too goofy to stand.
For those who don’t know, the Arkh Project is a grassroots group attempting to create a quality role playing game, with a focus on lbgbtq, POC and non-cisgendered characters.
This affects NO ONE adversely. It’s an attempt to, through art and toil, represent a wider spectrum of characters than we see in, oh, virtually every other mainstream game out there. It takes nothing from anyone. It is an addition, a strengthening, a widening, of what is available. It is an acknowledgement and celebration of players and characters that normally are not even visible in the gaming stores and press.
If it truly bothers you, then I suggest you go to a local Gamestop, close your eyes, and pick out one of the thousands of games that made no effort whatsoever to acknowledge marginalized player groups. Lord knows you will have plenty to choose from.
