True Thing I Just Read…

…in a review of Firestorm.

The reviewer didn’t like it, that’s fine. But man, I was disheartened by how many people objected to the very IDEA of talking about race in a superhero comic. Not that they objected to the execution, just the very idea that a white hero might have white privilege and that a black hero might be unhappy about it at all. Just bringing it UP pissed a lot of people off immensely.

Anyway, this is a real quote from the review’s final paragraph.

“In summation, why is there a black guy, and is he seriously expecting us to believe that racism against black people is a serious issue in a first-world country in this day and age?”


I…wish I could say I was surprised, but I read quite a few such comments.
