APE IN A CAPE: About Nubia

gailsimone:

For those not in the know, Wonder Woman had a character for a time, a black Amazon, named Nubia…I think they changed it to N’ubia later.

She’s a fantastic looking character, and the couple stories I have seen her in, she seemed very interesting.

But I did initially think it was odd that a white…

I’m not terribly familiar but I enjoyed her appearances under Morrison from the Multiverse stuff.

I heard they tried to bring her back during something called the Gorilla War which wow, is rife with unfortunate implications.

But like any character, she can be salvaged if handled by a writer who actually knows what the hell they’re doing.

It’s true that any character is salvageable, but you know, this is the company that named an Eskimo kid, “Pieface.”

And again, I don’t KNOW the character enough…most of what I know about her at this point are just these amazing scans, where she looks like an absolute fierce dazzler. I want to read more about her.

My problem was never the character, the character looks awesome.

And the name is actually really cool, it just felt jarring when placed next to every other Amazon.

  19. drivenbats said: I think it depends on her origin. I think there should be a black Wonder character (The Superman family has Steel) as long as she is not a token character. Giving her a name like Nubia makes her seem like a token character and doesn’t make much sense. If the Amazons don’t…
