THE RACIST NYPD cop who boasted that he had “fried another n——-” now admits he falsely arrested the black man to teach him a lesson.
Michael Daragjati is scheduled to be sentenced Friday for violating the civil rights of Kenrick Gray after he was stopped and frisked in Staten Island.
Daragjati explains he fabricated a resisting arrest charge because Gray mouthed off to him. Gray spent two days in jail as a result of the bogus collar.
“I did so, not because of the color of his skin, but because he was rude and disrespectful to me,” Daragjati wrote in a six-page letter from his jail cell to Brooklyn Federal Judge William Kuntz, who is black and a former member of the Civilian Complaint Review Board.
“I thought that if he received a (desk appearance ticket and was released) this person wouldn’t have learned a lesson that he should not be disrespectful to law enforcement.”
The FBI had been probing Daragjati in an unrelated extortion investigation for threatening someone whom he thought had stolen his snowplow. In the course of that investigation, authorities taped Daragjati discussing Gray’s arrest and repeatedly using the N-word.
“I know that I will never be able to convince the world that I am not a racist,” Daragjati wrote. “I know that I am not … . That word was not reserved for people of color, it was used as an ignorant reference to those people in the street because of their conduct and disrespect for the community and members of law enforcement.”
Four Staten Island cops and two retired sergeants also wrote to the judge praising Daragati’s character and asking for leniency. On the most recent job evaluation before his arrest, Daragjati’s supervisor gave him the top grade for “community interaction.”
Daragjati, who has been fired from the force as a result of the conviction, vowed that he will never again utter the N-word. He faces up to 57 months in prison for the civil rights and extortion charges he pleaded guilty to this year.
“Law enforcement” doesn’t deserve respect.
I just can’t even …
The racist NYPD
you can stop right there
cops really do deserve absolutely anything that happens to them and/or their families
I dunno about their families…but this is despicable.
Something I want to point out. Whenever I hear people try to weasel out of their intentional application of the n-word in the context its meant to be used by saying the above… its always the boldest of the bold face lies. How many times has anyone of you ever heard someone call someone else the n-word where the implications were not racially loaded (and negatively coded as black)? The n-word as a slur is used in two contexts, 1.) when people or persons want to indicate dominance and demean black people , 2.) when they feel the worst possible thing in the world is to be compared to black people (if its used against non-blacks).
The behavior of the … officer of the law, though, not at all surprising. The number of cases where we find that wontonly biased, blatantly corrupt people bend and break the laws their supposed to uphold because…they’re offended (?) are likely far higher than I’d want to dwell on.
GOOD GOD.
Here’s a way I will respect this man. He could jump off a damn cliff and try not to hit any birds on the way down.
Holy SHIT.
I’m somewhat disappointed you didn’t say one word about how people were basically wishing death on the police…ALL of the police.
(The following is NOT directed to Gail, who I know is rational enough not to need this lecture. But I AM still disappointed that she didn’t take anybody to task for it.)
I mean, ‘Cops really do deserve anything that happens to them/their families’? Really? Even the TENS OF THOUSANDS of them that are good, non-*ist people?
That’s no better than saying ‘All black people are criminals’. It’s arguably WORSE, because these people put their lives on the line to PROTECT people. LIKE YOU. From people who would do harm to you. Just because they have the SAME PROFESSION as a few dickbags who abuse that power.
Don’t like people hating on you just because of gender, nationality, race, sexual preference, profession, etc? Don’t hate on people just because of THEIRS.
It’s not a difficult concept, people!
Well, Simone was too busy adding her comment saying she hoped he killed himself since that was the only thing worthwhile/respectable he could do with his life from here on out. Don’t let her off for that just because she writes good comic books. She made a post saying that another human being should commit suicide a) because he’s a racist asshat and b) in order to earn her respect.
Why would she bother telling people not to lump all police together with the douche bag ones or discourage wishing harm upon them and their families? As best I can tell, she agrees with the sentiment.
There are bad police officers out there who are *-ists. I’ll not deny that. It’s a large group and that is a unfortunate side effect of it being a large group. On the other hand, there a lot of good police officers out there who are risking their lives every day trying to uphold the “protect and serve”, and they do deserve respect. Heck, there are POC officers on the force too — unless you want to, for the convenience of making your point, erase any POC who chose that profession. Of course we only ever hear about the bad ones in the news! When was the last time your news program ever shared good news? News that wasn’t some political bit aligned with the station’s affiliations, the result of the nation’s obsession with invading a celebrities personal life, or some local fluff piece about an animal adoption? We don’t get to hear the good. You’ve got to take your news balance with a gain of salt.
This guy was/is a racist asshat, and for his behavior he was fired and is undergoing prosecution. As well he should. These numerous asshats wishing/justifying violence towards police officers and their families and encouraging other people to commit suicide need to check themselves.
I didn’t read most of the other posts. If there’s a chorus of people genuinely asking for that, sincerely, then I disagree with that strongly.
My post was angry and hyberbolic, but holy SHIT, how many of these stories of racist cops do we have to read before our sympathy goes to the people it belongs to, the victims of that racism?
The hypocrisy of this man, sending an innocent man to jail, where god knows what could happen to him, and THEN blaming the victim AND pulling the ‘I am not a racist’ card AND saying, in the most ridiculous statement ever, that he did it to make the man respect the law?
That is beyond the pale, it’s outrageous. It is indicative of a cancer in our society. Saying that there are great cops out there seems highly derailing, not to mention irrelevant. We are talking about THIS cop who has the misfortune to get caught doing something bad cops have gotten away with forever.
I don’t want anyone to commit suicide. But I think a little cynicism that justice will prevail here is highly in order and frustration is more than a little understandable.
To be honest, I can’t see how it’s derailing for elfgrove to refute “cops really do deserve absolutely anything that happens to them and/or their families” when they weren’t the ones to bring it up in the first place. Someone else put on a post that all cops, any cops, deserve anything bad that ever happens to them. They didn’t put a modifier on their statement. Elfgrove and others were just refuting the statement that someone else had brought up. If you want derailing, talk to them about derailing by bringing it up in the first place, not to the people who say that and thought “no, that’s not quite right”.
I have no problem with elfgrove and I understand why she is angry.
I’m just angry and frustrated and sick of seeing the endless stories like this every day. I think we can all agree on that part, right?
