I love this piece, by Peter Nguyen, the talented artist who did the ‘villain stripper’ issue of Secret Six, number 16.  I like the tough, don’t mess with me look.  Black Alice was instantly popular when she first appeared, in Bop #75.  Misfit, deliberately created to be Oracle’s Bat-mite and a little bit annoying, was hugely polarizing and remains so. Some people absolutely loathe her, while some adore her. I get more fan art about her, more people cosplaying her (her costume is pretty simple) and more requests for her than almost any character I’ve ever created. There are Misfit blogs and a few websites, lotta Misfit fanfic.
It was briefly implied that they might be related, that is not the case.

At one point, DC wanted to make Charlie the new Batgirl. I begged them not to, not because it would affect Misfit badly, but because I felt it would damage the batgirl name. Misfit is really pretty superficial to be Batgirl but beyond that, she has a clear and significant meta-human power, and I don’t believe Batgirl should be able to teleport out of danger. DC agreed pretty quickly, they were great about that, and now we have Misfit AND  a cool new Batgirl.

Neat.
